Hi Bag Lady,

Many of the Louis Vuitton handbags do have real suede interiors. Suede is actually a very easy material to care for in most cases.

First, clean any stains or spots. A pencil eraser will often remove minor stains. An emery board to remove larger or more stubborn ones.

Next, you will want to raise the nap if it is crushed. You can do this by folding the interior out if possible and holding over a steaming pot of hot water. If that does not do the trick, or is not possible because of the design of the purse, you can also rub the interior with a damp terry cloth.

Finally, once the interior is clean and completely dry, treat it with one of the suede conditioners on the market. You should be able to purchase this anywhere that shoes are sold or fine leather shops. You may also want to use a suede brush to get the conditioner into the material and to raise the nap further.

Can you tell me how to care for the suede-like interior lining of many of the purses like the Cabas Piano and the Looping Handbags? Many older ones seem to start cracking and peeling, while others look great. Is there anything that can be put on it to keep it supple?

Can you please tell me when the BOULOGNE MONOGRAM CEASED SELLING art the Louis Vuitton Stores ?

Hi Kerry,

One indicator is where the bag was purchased. If you purchased from the regular retailer or an authorized outlet, then you can be about 99 percent certain it is authentic. However, if you purchased it second hand, it can be really hard to be certain. There are some services out there that will verify for you, such as My Poupette that you may want to try. I believe they even specialize in VT products. Sometimes they can identify from details you send and the photograph, but other times they do need you to send in the bag. You can find their website at MyPoupette.com.

I have a LV clear plastic shopping bag/tote that the LV company has already identified by style, even though discontinued. My problem is: one 'expert' has told me it is real and one 'expert' has told me that it's not.Is there anyone who can definitively identify it?

Hi Sita,

It certainly sounds authentic, but many of the fakes are excellent copies. Without having purchased it yourself, it is hard to be certain. Do you know the person who gave it to you well? You can always ask them if they bought it firsthand and where they found it. For example, if the purse was purchased in a retail location that Louis Vuitton authorizes, then you can be fairly certain it is authentic.

There are also some authentication services out there that may authenticate it for you, such as My Poupette.

I was given a used Louis Vuitton "Le Fabuleux" white handbag. It fits the description of an authentic like it states under your "authentic or fake" example. Inside the bag under the buckle strap it has the little "r in a circle" with "Louis Vuitton, Paris, made in France logo stamped in the leather. The fabric inside looks like a white, satin material with small LV logos all over the material. Please advise.
