Prada Wallets
From LoveToKnow Handbags
Prada wallets are just one of many fashionable and striking items created by the luxury brand giant, Prada. Wallet styles range from the signature simple nylon black to the esoteric reptile skins of the season’s latest haute accessory. There is no denying the great name behind Prada, and patrons of these accessory goods are noticed for their opulent and distinct taste.
Behind the Brand
Mario Prada kicked off the Prada Empire in 1913. His humble beginnings arose through the selling of shoes, handbags, and trunks within both Europe and the United States. Reasonable success led him to open up two boutiques in Milan, where the original heavy walrus skin Prada suitcase was deemed impractical. Instead, lighter bags, including materials such as crystals, tortoise shell, and wood were favored along with waterproof fabrics. Despite these changes, Prada was heading downwards during the 1970’s.
The birth of Miuccia Prada in 1950 marked a change for the brand. A self-proclaimed Communist and doctorate-wielding political science expert, Miuccia shelved her academic credentials and used her talents to make luggage products crafted from a waterproof fabric called Pocone. In 1979, Miuccia became the frontrunner for Prada. She transformed and expanded the product lines, creating luxury totes and backpacks that featured classic black nylon. In 1985 she added Prada footwear to the merchandise line.
It didn’t take long for sales to boom, and in 1993 Muiccia was granted an International award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Two years later, she received the 1995 Designer of the Year award.
Prada is now an enormous fashion entity, boasting everything from menswear to sunglasses and even smaller lines such as Miu Miu. More importantly, the Prada name is sported by celebrities regularly, making these flagrant Italian designs a surefire way to get noticed.
Styles of Prada Wallets
Although the designer has a reputation for creating severe and eccentric styles, Prada wallets remain classic and subtle in their styles. The most common crafting materials for these wallets include:
- Nylon
- Leather
- Jacquard fabric
The Signature Prada Nylon
Perhaps the most common Prada accessories are crafted using the signature black nylon materials. The classic Prada wallets feature nylon gabardine with the silvertone Prada logo placed on the front. These wallets are very often made in black, although certain seasons have allowed for other colors like smoke, the Prada pink (a trademark color that portrays a softly muted almost baby pink) and a light silvery blue. The signature nylon line features a wide array of styles such as:
- Coin purses
- Continental wallets
- Bi-folds
- Flap card wallets
Prada Leather
The Prada leather wallets are made from the highest quality Italian leather that contribute to the success of this great brand. As with many high-end designers, customers purchasing trademarked Prada goods can trust that their brand name tastes stand for quality. Prada often textures its leather, adding style to an already superior product. The Double Leather Saffiano French Wallet is a sterling example of Prada quality.
The Jacquard Fabrics
Pioneering the field of casual luxury, Prada came out with many jacquard cloth goods that truly illustrate the purpose of resort collections by granting a tropical jetsetter feel to the product line. These jacquard styles implement simple, yet exotic fabrics like hemp. In fact, the Hemp Logo Jacquard Bi-fold wallet is the perfect item for anyone looking to update their resort or summer wardrobe. These Prada wallet styles are less stodgy and conventional than their nylon counterparts, yet they maintain the same level of understated luxury that makes this brand subtle and unpretentious.
Where to Purchase
Prada wallets can be purchased from many fine department stores including:
- Neiman Marcus
- Saks Fifth Avenue
- Barneys
Several reputable online retailers carry genuine Prada merchandise. Safe discount vendors include the ever popular Bluefly. Prada lovers should be warned that these luxury wallets sell for prices ranging from the low to medium hundreds. Leather styles come at even higher costs.
Since the luxury prices are unaffordable by the masses, Prada has fallen prey to the replica industry. Most Prada wallets sold on the Internet or by street vendors are not genuine. Consumers are encouraged to purchase brand name goods from Prada retailers or department stores.

Hi Cass,
So sorry to hear you've had problems with them. Thanks for sharing your experience with our readers. We value your opinion and it's always good to get some news from those in the trenches with these products.
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardI bought a Prada wallet from the Milan store and in the year of owning it have had to send it back twice to be fixed. The first the 'R' in PRADA fell off! The second time the coin picket lining has ripped and apparently cannot be fixed. I would not agree that they are quality, superior products and will stick to Mulberry in future!
